Michigan
For Public Education
Michigan For Public Education (formerly the Michigan Public Education
Task Force) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization comprised
of individuals and organizations advocating for and promoting
public schools.
Mission Statement
To promote, defend and advocate for a quality education for each child.
We
vow to:
- Uphold
Article 8, Section 2 of the Michigan Constitution which states:
"The legislature shall maintain and support a system
of free public and elementary schools as defined by law. Every
school district shall provide for the education of its pupils
without discrimination as to religion, creed, race, color
or national origin."
-
Preserve the First Amendment separation of religion and state
in the public schools.
-
Defend public education when it is wrongly attacked. Present
a truthful understanding of public schools through the use
of relevant and accurate data.
The
membership consists of organizations and individuals who support
the purpose of MFPE. Each member organization shall appoint a
representative to attend meetings and report activities to its
membership.
MFPE
most often meets quarterly on the first Friday or Monday
of the month (March, June, September, December) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Meetings alternate between
the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Greater Detroit Section
in Southfield and a location in the Lansing area.
MFPE
membership includes access to the MFPE Listserve.
